What is the Hand Surgery Center? | Characteristics of specialized treatment
– Providing medical care for injuries and diseases of the hands that support daily living –

Our Center is a specialist clinic for hand surgery and specializes in treating pain, numbness, swelling, deformation, trauma, and lumps of the hands, fingers, wrists, and elbows.
We provide a wide range of treatment from common hand diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome, thumb CM joint arthritis, and trigger finger to trauma and tumor and also sophisticated treatment that requires microsurgery.

Greetings from the Director of the Center

I am Takashi Ohe, Director of the Hand Surgery Center.
Humans have developed the brain by using tools with the hands; they have evolved into the present state by skillfully using the hands with the more developed brains. The human hands have a special structure and can carry out detailed work as well as operations that require strength. We understand this special structure, determine the types of abnormalities in it, and provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment for hand trauma and diseases. We suggest treatment such as surgery and conservative therapy according to the symptoms. (The therapeutic effect varies among individuals, and there are complications and risks.)
We have established the “Hand Surgery Center” to broadly display our expertise. As hand surgery specialists certificated by the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand, we aim to restore hand function and improve your quality of life (QOL).
Our Center provides comprehensive team-based care, supporting patients from diagnosis through surgery to rehabilitation. If you have concerns about your hands, please feel free to consult us.

Diseases explained in the video

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (explanation video) | Numbness of hands/nighttime pain

The median nerve is compressed in the carpal tunnel of the wrist, causing numbness of the thumb, index finger, and middle finger; night pain; and decreased grip strength.

  • Cubital tunnel syndrome (explanation video) | Numbness on the side of the little finger

The ulnar nerve is compressed at the elbow, causing numbness and muscular weakness of the side of the little finger and ring finger.

  • Thumb CM joint arthritis (explanation video) | Pain and deformity at the base of the thumb

Arthropathy resulting from cartilage wear causes pain, swelling, or deformity at the base of the thumb (CM joint).

  • Malunion of fracture (e.g., distal radius fracture/explanation video)

A condition in which the fracture is cured with deformation, leaving pain, limited range of motion, and difficulty using the hand.
