In addition, the department is home to residents currently undergoing training to become board-certified radiologists.

Diagnostic Imaging

The department is responsible for conducting imaging examinations primarily using CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine (isotope) scans. Under the supervision of board-certified radiologists, image interpretation (reading) is performed, and diagnostic reports are prepared and provided to the referring physicians.
The department also performs a wide range of image-guided therapies (interventional radiology: IVR), including arterial embolization for gastrointestinal and retroperitoneal hemorrhages, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for liver cancer, embolization procedures for visceral artery aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, lymphangiography (and embolization) for postoperative chylothorax, as well as image-guided biopsies and drainages.
In recent years, requested by the Departments of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, the department has also been involved in super-selective intra-arterial chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy for head and neck cancers, conducted jointly by diagnostic and therapeutic radiologists.

Radiation Therapy

We provide radiation therapy for localized cancers such as lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, laryngeal cancer, pharyngeal cancer, uterine cancer, and esophageal cancer.
At our department, we use a linear accelerator (LINAC) to deliver focused and precise radiation therapy.
Specifically, we offer advanced techniques such as Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (also known as pinpoint irradiation). In collaboration with related departments, we also provide multidisciplinary treatment combining radiation therapy with chemotherapy, surgery, and other therapeutic approaches.

Team-Based Medical Care

Our department is committed to team-based medical care, with close collaboration among various healthcare professionals to provide the best possible treatment.
In diagnostic imaging, board-certified radiologists certified by the Japan Radiological Society or the Japanese Medical Specialty Board, resident physicians in training, radiological technologists from the radiology department, and nurses from the nursing department work together to ensure that examinations are conducted safely and effectively.
In radiation therapy, our team includes board-certified radiation oncologists certified by the Japan Radiological Society and the Japanese Society for Radiation Oncology, certified radiation therapy technologists accredited by the Japanese Organization for Certification of Radiological Technologists in Radiation Therapy, and certified nurses specializing in cancer radiation therapy accredited by the Japanese Nursing Association.
By leveraging the expertise of each professional, we strive to provide high-quality, collaborative care for our patients.

Comprehensive Training Institution for Board-Certified Radiologists, Japan Radiological Society

Accredited Training Facility for Interventional Radiology Specialists, Japanese Society of Interventional Radiology

Certified Educational Hospital for Nuclear Medicine Specialists, Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine

Accredited Facility by the Japanese Society for Radiation Oncology

（2）Policy

In diagnostic imaging, we strive to provide prompt and accurate imaging and image-guided treatment to meet the specific needs of each referring clinical department.
In radiation therapy, we perform precise and carefully planned treatments based on the latest scientific evidence. Using a dedicated computer-based “high-precision 3D radiation therapy planning system,” we create individualized treatment plans that allow us to focus radiation precisely on the cancer while avoiding damage to healthy organs.

（3）Our Strengths

Advanced Imaging Diagnosis Using State-of-the-Art CT and MRI Technologies

In imaging diagnosis, we utilize CT systems equipped with advanced technologies such as image reconstruction techniques based on deep learning, in collaboration with radiological technologists. Additionally, computer-aided diagnosis technologies on imaging workstations are employed as needed to support interpretation.
Most MRI systems are capable of capturing whole-brain perfusion images using Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL), a non-contrast technique. Furthermore, some systems employ cutting-edge methods to shorten scan times, such as compressed sensing—a novel MRI acceleration technique that acquires images from a reduced amount of data using information technology—and multiband imaging, which simultaneously excites and acquires multiple slices.
By leveraging these advanced technologies, we aim to provide highly reliable imaging diagnoses based on the latest medical information.

Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to Reduce Side Effects

Our department offers Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), which delivers radiation from multiple directions with varying intensities, precisely targeting the tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
The primary treatment sites for IMRT include the prostate, head and neck, brain, esophagus, gynecological organs such as the uterus, lungs, and other areas. Specifically, we utilize a technique called Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), a form of IMRT that delivers radiation continuously as the machine rotates around the patient.
By implementing IMRT, we aim to enhance the effectiveness of treatment while simultaneously reducing the risk of side effects.

Providing Radiation Treatments for Pain Relief and at Post Surgeries

In addition, we offer radiation therapy after standard breast-conserving surgery, as well as treatments for pain relief.

To Nearby Medical Facilities: Information on Imaging Examinations

The Department of Radiology accepts referrals from physicians at nearby medical institutions for imaging examinations such as CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine (isotope/RI), as well as bone mineral density tests.
For more details, please see please see here.

To Our Patients: Request for Cooperation in Clinical Research

At the Department of Radiology, we are conducting the following medical research using patient information. These studies are carried out in accordance with ethical guidelines and relevant laws, with approval from the Ethics Committee and permission from the hospital director.
